• GIORDANO, Jimmy Allen, who formerly lived in Castro Valley and Hayward, passed away at his Sparks, Nevada home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at age 65. A native of Hayward, Mr. Giordano had worked in the floor installation business. He had suffered from lung cancer for two years. A celebration of life was held Aug. 20 at the Sparks Christian Fellowship.

• McCARTHY, Joseph A. Sr., who lived in Castro Valley, died in Oakland on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at age 91. Mr. Mc- Carthy, who had formerly lived in Livermore until 2005, had retired after a nearly 20-years career in the Procurement Department of the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. He was a member of St Michael’s church where he served many years as a lector, eucharistic minister, a member of the Golden Friends, and a past member of the parish council and school board. He had been a member of Transfiguration church in Castro Valley since 2005. Services were held Sept. 14 at St. Michael’s Church. Arrangements were made by Callaghan’s Mortuary of Livermore.

• SILVEIRA, Frank A. Jr., who lived in Castro Valley for nearly 60 years passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at age 93. A first generation Portuguese American, Mr. Silveira was born in Oakland. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and worked for the State of California for more than 38 years in the Employment Development Department. He was active in the Catholic Church and the Young Men’s Institute, and volunteered his time with the Knights of Columbus. A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Castro Valley at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 16. A private interment at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon will be conducted on Thursday.

• WYATT, Sonia C., May 19, 1934 - September 8, 2009. Resident of Vallejo. A memorial service will be held on September 16, at 7p.m. at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo (707) 644-7474. The funeral mass will be held on September 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, 3450 Tennessee Street, Vallejo, followed by her burial at All Souls Cemetery.
